Back-to-back Blancpain GT Series podiums for Oman Racing with TF Sport

Under the sunny skies of Silverstone, Oman Racing with TF Sport secured back-to-back podiums in the second round of the Blancpain GT Series.

Salih Yoluc, Ahmad Al Harthy and Charlie Eastwood teamed up once again to put in an excellent, collective effort to qualify on pole position. Rounding out the session as the highest placed Aston Martin, the team set a combined time of 2:01:108 slotting them into P18 overall and first in ProAM class.

Off the line, Ahmad avoided the first-lap chaos that consumed four cars in the middle of the pack causing an early safety car. Having dropped to third place in class, he put in a consistent collection of lap times, clinging to the back of the Mercedes, before handing over the Aston to Salih.

Despite receiving a knock in the middle of his stint, Salih nursed a steering issue while keeping in contention before passing the Vantage over to Charlie to chase down the final podium position.

Having re-joined the race during a full course yellow, with the Mercedes ahead yet to make its final stop, Charlie came out in fifth place. As the #87 entered the pit-lane, Charlie was able to catch the the back of the podium fight and swiftly passed the #93 to take third place.

Although early pace allowed the #97 to catch second place, the #52 AF Corse was just too far ahead for the team to catch. Oman Racing with TF Sport ultimately took home third place, securing back-to-back Blancpain GT podiums that keeps them third in the championship standings, just five points off the top.
Tom Ferrier, TF Sport Director
“It’s really good for us to have gotten pole position and even better to have scored some strong points with the podium. We’ve not yet maximised our potential, but we will soon. We had the pace to do better today but unfortunately didn’t. Our time will come and we still have Paul Ricard and Spa to reach our goals.”
Ahmad Al Harthy
“Really happy with our performance in qualifying and to get another pole was a very solid job from all of the team and drivers. My stint at the start of the race was very tricky with so many incidents on the first lap so I was happy to just avoid most of the issues. My pace was consistent and that’s what we needed to do, obviously falling down the order later on was not great but Charlie bringing it back is something very positive. It’s always good to go back to Oman with something in our hands.”
Salih Yoluc
“It was good to start on pole. I think we put in a good effort to have put in such a strong qualifying time. A lot of my stint was under full course yellows and safety cars, and the damage I got after a knock set us back. But the car has strong pace and we showed that throughout the weekend. It’s just a shame because we had the chance to take a better result here, but the points at least keep us in contention so we look forward to what we can achieve in Paul Ricard.”
Charlie Eastwood
“It was a difficult race to be honest. We got out behind the Ferrari when we had some pace but we had a bit of damage that we had to manage. I knew from the out lap that it was going to be a long stint. It’s good that we got another podium and some strong points on the board, but I think we showed so much pace this weekend that we definitely had the chance to go stronger all being well, but that’s racing. We just need to convert all of these fast lap times into a win very soon.”
