BRC Racing Team ready to confirm early promise at Hungaroring
After the positive debut in Marrakech in the first weekend of the new FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) season, it’s already time for BRC Racing Team and its drivers Gabriele Tarquini and Norbert Michelisz to be back on track for the WTCR Race of Hungary.
The 4.381 meters of the Hungaroring circuit, located 20 km from Budapest, will be very important for the two drivers, who had differing fortunes at the opening round in Morocco.
The weekend brings Norbert Michelisz to his home track for the first time in the Hyundai i30 N TCR. On a circuit where he has enjoyed success before he will be aiming to give the large home crowd something to cheer about across the three races.
The 33-years-old Hungarian driver comments: “I’m very excited to race in front of my fans this weekend on the Hungaroring. The i30 N TCR proved to be a very competitive car in in the hands of BRC Racing Team in Marrakech. Although the Hungaroring is a very different type of circuit to where we started the season we want to show the same level of performance this weekend. It is an incredibly demanding circuit, where overtaking is tricky, so I’ll try to do my very best in both qualifying sessions to start from as far ahead as possible”.
Gabriele Tarquini, the true protagonist of the opening round thanks to his victories in Race 1 and Race 3, arrives in Hungary as leader of the general standings. However, he will have to confirm the potential he showed in Marrakech, where he also won a pole position and scored the fastest lap in a race.
The Italian driver declares: “I couldn’t have hoped for anything more from the first weekend in Marrakech. Everything went perfectly, and on Sunday evening I realized I was leading the Drivers’ championship. We know the Marrakech track is unique, very different from Hungaroring and the championship is very long this year, but I’m very happy with this start, even considering the long preparation work done by BRC Racing Team. We’re approaching the next race knowing we have a very competitive Hyundai i30 N TCR, and I hope Norbi, on his home weekend, can put on a good show for the crowd. This will be the first time I drive the i30 N TCR at the track, but it’s a circuit I like and I hope to be competitive right from the first free practice”.
For BRC Racing Team and Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing, the challenge on the Hungarian track will be the opportunity to confirm the positive feelings of the North-African race and consolidate the first position in the Teams’ Championship.
