*Live coverage a prelude to China’s back-to-back autumn WTCR races
The WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO will be broadcast live in China on one of the country’s largest live sports streaming platforms with one million active daily users.
Owned by Tencent, QIE Live broadcasts NBA (National Basketball Association), CBA (China Basketball Association), UEFA Champions League and Formula One. It is now adding the all-action WTCR OSCARO to its 24-hours-per-day programming portfolio under an exciting agreement between QIE Live and Qishi, the WTCR media rights holder in China.
QIE Live will stream all remaining WTCR OSCARO events starting with this weekend’s FIA WTCR Race of Hungary (28-29 April) with the coverage including bespoke content designed to appeal to fans who have yet to experience the exciting on-track action from the WTCR.
Yue Pan, Managing Director of Qishi, said: “We are delighted to bring the all-new WTCR to Chinese audiences. All remaining races including the exiting Macau race, which Chinese motorsport fans have desired for many years, will be broadcasted via QIE Live. WTCR cars, such as the Volkswagen Golf, Honda Civic and Audi RS 3, are very popular in China so we believe each brand will have their own racing fans soon. We will also work with live.qq.com to build a WTCR web page where fans can access all the interesting content. It’s a new season with new cars and new audiences.”
Mingjue Ye, General Manager of broadcaster QIE Live, said: “We are very pleased to become the online broadcaster of WTCR in China. To enable the racing fans to get closer to the races, we would like to bring WTCR to a customised page to show more highlights and reviews after each race. As the broadcaster of Formula One, our platform is gathering more and more racing fans. We strongly believe that WTCR will become the most popular touring car racing worldwide and we feel honoured to be the part of it.”
François Ribeiro, Head of Eurosport Events, the WTCR promoter, said: “Confirmation that WTCR OSCARO will available live on one of China’s largest live sports streaming platforms with one million active daily users is a very significant development for the championship and its stakeholders. And with two races in China this season, I’m certain QIE will bring a valuable support in promoting those two events.”
