TCR Italy
Massimiliano Chini for the DSG Trophy

Massimiliano Chini will compete for the DSG Trophy of TCR Italy; he will drive a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR run by the NOS-Ermete Racing team.
"I can’t wait for the championship to start, I am really motivated. I have worked very much during the winter, with fitness and testing. I think the DSG Trophy is the ideal dimension for amateur drivers. We are given the opportunity to fight for a title and yet racing together the professionals,” said Chini who is facing the sixteenth season with the team directed by Massimo Poli.
The highlight of Chini’s racing career was the 2014 title in the Second Division of the Italian Touring Endurance Championship with a SEAT León Supercópa; he began driving TCR cars in 2016, taking part in some events of the Italian series with a SEAT León Cup Racer.

TCR Italy
Nicola Baldan ready to defend his title

Nicola Baldan will return to the TCR Italy championship with the aim of defending the title he won in 2017. Baldan will stay with the team Pit Lane Competizioni, but he will switch from last year’s SEAT León to a Hyundai i30 N.
“I’m over the moon and I can’t wait for the start of the season. The Hyundai is the best option I could dream of; on top if this I know the team well and I’m confident that together we can perform on top, like in the two previous seasons. I was impressed when I visited the Hyundai Motorsport and met engineer Andrea Adamo. I wish I can become a regular member of the Hyundai family,”
said Baldan who has the ambition to be the first driver to win a second TCR Italy title, and with different brands.

TCR Europe
Danny Kroes joins PCR Sport

Danny Kroes has signed up to race in the TCR Europe Series, where he will drive a Cupra TCR. He will race for Spanish team PCR Sport, which makes the move to Touring Car racing with a two-car programme; ‘youth’ is the keyword of the season, with 18-year-old Kroes joining 21-year-old Spaniard Mikel Azcona, while WTCR star Pepe Oriola will be Kroes' coach for the forthcoming season.
The team has just begun its pre-season testing programme at Valencia’s Circuito Ricardo Tormo.
"My teammate Mikel Azcona has a lot of experience, so during the year I can learn from him and we can work together to get the best results for the team. I also know the car well from racing it last year at Zandvoort and Oschersleben and it has already proven to be strong. Together with PCR Sport I'm sure we're going to have a fantastic season ahead," said Kroes.

Campeonato España Resistencia
RC2 Junior Team wins in Valencia

The opening round of the 2018 Campeonato España Resistencia (CER) at Valencia’s Circuito Ricardo Tormo delivered an exciting battle between SEAT León and Cupra TCR cars. The RC2 Junior Team León driven by David Cébrian and Max Llobet emerged as the winner, but the first seven places in the final classification were all covered by 90 seconds.
Vicinanza-Cosin finished second in a Monlau Competición Cupra DSG, 25 seconds behind the winner and only five ahead of the Baporo Motorsport’s similar car shared by Vinyes-Font.
The second round of the CER will take place at Motorland-Alcañiz on 19/20 May.

24H Nürburgring Qualifying Race
Hyundai sets a new TCR record

The Hyundai i30 N became the fastest TCR car to complete a lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife, when Andreas Gülden drove around the 25km road course in 9:03.206.
Hyundai Motorsport entered two cars in the 6-hour Qualifying race for the Nürburgring 24 Hours. Both the i30 N TCR cars fought against higher-spec GT4 entries throughout their stints and dominated the class for most of the race. However, minor mechanical problems meant they finished second and third in the class behind the Bonk Motorsport Audi RS3 LMS of Hermann Bock, Max Partl and Rainer Partl. The gap between the winning Audi and the first Hyundai was of only 90 seconds.

TCR Russia @ Fort Grozny
Surprise wins for Gavrilov and Golikov

The TCR Russia series’ opening event at Fort Grozny delivered a couple of unexpected results. Lukoil Racing’s young gun Klim Gavrilov claimed an authoritative victory in Race 1 in his first race at the wheel of the Audi RS3 LMS, while Roman Golikov of UGMK Motorsport won the second race and so scored the Volkswagen Golf GTI’s first success in Russia.
In Race 1, on a drying track, Gavrilov overtook Dmitry Bragin for the lead and then benefited from the collision between the reigning champion and Aleksey Dudukalo to build a small gap. However he made a mistake and handed the lead to Kirill Ladygin. After mid race Ladygin's pace faded and Gavrilov retook the lead, while Mikhail Grachev and Vladimir Sheshenin closed the gap in second and third positions, but not enough to attack the leader.
The second race saw Golikov making good use of his front row starting position on the top-ten reverse grid to take the lead. For most of the race, Dudukalo put in a great defensive drive to defend second position from Ladygin, which helped Golikov to build a gap. Vitalj Dudin managed to pass both Ladygin and Dudukalo, moving up to second in the Akhmat Racing Team Golf GTI and Ladygin beat Dudukalo on the line for the third place.
After the race, however, Ladygin was given a 20 second penalty for unfair driving and Dudin was excluded for a ride height infringement.
This meant that Golikov and Gavrilov are joint leaders in the standings with 33 points, two clear of Dudukalo, while Sheshenin is fourth with 29.
TCR Russia will resume at the Smolensk Ring on 5/6 May.
