Congratulations to Yvan Muller, the DHL Pole Position winner. After dominating the pole positions in China, now you’re on pole here in Macau. Just explain your flying lap, please?
After the red flag we saw we couldn’t achieve a fifth run so we decided to wait to have a clear lap. We went at three and a half minutes to the end of the session. Yann [Ehrlacher] was in front of me to give me the tow, I follow him quite closely to have the best tow because I knew even in the uphill in the back part of the circuit he would be fast because he showed his speed during all week and finally I could manage to do the pole because I knew it was very tight because I knew the time of Norbi. I saw my predicted time and I saw it would be in the 10ths and finally we did it.
A word on Yann, who you mentioned just now, he was very quick early in the session but then had a problem. Do you know what happened to him and what are your thoughts on his bad luck today?
I don’t know exactly what happened but, apparently, he had a suspension failure or something like that. When I went out on the second run behind him [the team] told me not to follow him because it’s too risky and that’s why he lost two runs. To manage to do P5 without a tow with two less runs than us is pretty impressive.
Turning next to Norbert Michelisz, right until the end it looked like the DHL Pole Position for you until Yvan pipped you. But on the #RoadToMalaysia where the title will be decided next month you’ve scored some very good points?
I am quite happy to be honest. Yvan did a fantastic job. The session was a bit compromised for me because there was no time to do the last run, I missed it by 15 seconds probably. But in the end starting from the front row is still a possibility to score good points but let’s wait and see. I am quite happy. We did a good job with the car, it was a clean lap and in the end you have to be happy with that.
Turning finally to Andy Priaulx, so many successes here in the past and your strong qualifying performances continue. How satisfied are you with third position?
I’m really happy and well done to Yvan and Norbi. I did the lap on my own, so I had more potential. I had to abort a lap that was maybe quicker before that final run. Performance has been great and I’m really getting more and more comfortable with the front-wheel drive, it’s getting better and better in each race and hopefully that will continue and I keep working with the engineers and the team to find more performance.
