Successful Asian introduction for NSX GT3
JAS Motorsport has completed a successful test with the Honda NSX GT3 at the Sepang International Circuit, introducing the car to potential customers in Asia in the process.
Having already claimed an impressive podium finish at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in January, the NSX GT3, which is built by JAS at its headquarters in Milan, Italy, has gained significant interest in the Asian market since the launch of the NSX GT3 Customer Racing Programme.
Aimed at giving interested customers an introduction to the car, which is based on the NSX road car, an exclusive taster event was held at Sepang in February.
With the assistance of former Italian GT Champion Stefano Gai, who was on-hand to provide driver aid, a selection of experienced Asian racers got behind the wheel during the three-day event.
Among them were 2017 Asian Le Mans Series GT champion Michael Choi, experienced international sportscar and touring car campaigner Philip Ma, and Le Mans 24 Hours competitor Morris Chen.
Martin Xie – a winner of several China Touring Car Championship races in JAS-built Honda Civics – reigning Pan-Delta Super Racing Series A1 champion Pat Wong, Porsche Carrera Cup Asia racer Kenneth Lau and former TCR International Series competitor James Tang also sampled the car.
Jun San Chen – a champion in both Asian Touring Cars and the Asian LMS –, Chinese LMP3 racer Rainey He and former Asian LMS competitor Vincent Wong.
All drivers were not only given time on-track, but also the opportunity to speak to JAS Motorsport’s engineering and management staff to increase their understanding of the NSX GT3.
The NSX GT3 Customer Racing Programme was launched by Honda at the Spa 24 Hours last year with an initial batch of cars produced by JAS following a development programme run in collaboration with Honda Motor, Honda Performance Development (HPD) and MTEC.
JAS are responsible for not only the construction of the cars, but also the sales and technical support in Europe, Asia (not including Japan), Australasia, Africa and South America.
